Legislator Carrié Solages, Haitian Community Leaders, Local Advocates Demand Action from Biden Admin

Updated: Mar 27, 2022

Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Lawrence), local community leaders and members of the Haitian community will demand the Biden administration abandon current plans to accelerate deportation flights to Haiti - a policy which continues the historic thread of racism that runs through U.S. foreign policy in its interactions with the Haitian diaspora.

The people of Haiti are continuing to grapple with the aftermath of multiple crises, including the recent assassination of President Moise, hurricanes, and earthquakes. At such a desperate time, Legislator Solages and advocates believe a humanitarian moratorium on deportations must be implemented as a starting point for achieving the most equitable possible solution.
